Jill Hoblin

Jill Hoblin, Cold Ash & ChieveleyStanding:

I am passionate about the environment, wildlife, conservation and sustainable living, and believe that we all need to work together to make this world a better place.

The Green Party is the only party that truly cares about making the changes that need to take place to fight some of the greatest threats to our planet and communities today.

My pledge as a Green Party candidate is that if elected I will address issues such as recycling, the need for better local transport, affordable housing, environmental protection and wildlife conservation.

Please vote Green and give West Berkshire a chance for change!

James Colin Thomas

Standing:

I joined the Green Party in 2015 after feeling like the traditional parties did not offer solutions to the major issues concerning our country, from climate change to neo-liberal capitalism.

The Green Party finally felt like a party with a vision for the future which encompasses protecting both the environment and the most vulnerable citizens in our society. This has been sorely lacking from political parties recently in power, both at a national and local level.

Before getting involved in West Berkshire Green Party, I was a volunteer at West Berkshire Food Banks. This brought me into direct contact with the victims of many of the Government’s cuts due to “austerity”. It was shocking that in one of the wealthiest countries in the world (and counties in the UK), families were reliant on volunteers to have enough food to eat.

I was also a founder member of the “West Berkshire Action For Refugees” group, started in 2015 in response to the refugee crisis. The group shipped over 2,000 boxes of aid to refugees across Europe and the Middle East, assisting in rehoming of Syrian refugees in the county and raising awareness of the crisis within the local community.

Having moved to Newbury in 2011, I’ve lived in Speen with my partner ever since. I’m a software engineer for a large technology company in their cloud division and my partner is a nurse in the NHS.

If elected as a councillor, I would continue with the hard work West Berkshire Green Party has already been doing for the residents of my ward in holding the Conservatives to account, protecting valuable services for residents in more rural wards, and putting forward policies to bring forward a “cleaner and greener” West Berkshire!
