West Berkshire Green Party campaigns for environmental and social justice. There is no greater threat to society and the natural world than climate change.
In May 2019, West Berkshire Council will debate whether to declare a climate emergency and draw up a strategy to ensure that the district is carbon neutral by 2030 – thanks to a public petition started by us. Many Green Party branches across the country have successfully secured such a commitment from their local councils.
We created the Save Our Services (SOS) campaign, which helped to save our local libraries and other public services. We led the campaign against the garden bin charge – which we regard as a tax on recycling. Our members campaign about mental health, homelessness, education and other issues that really matter to local people.
Every time we fight an election locally we have increased our vote share. We are the most visible political party in West Berkshire – in the media nearly every week, and out in our communities building links with people and campaigning on a range of issues.
We are a friendly, feisty and creative group, from all backgrounds and ages, and we welcome new members and supporters.
